Tasting notes

« Another terriffic wine is the Terrasses Du Larzac Le Palas, which is the more Syrah  dominated cuvee. It offers lots of black raspberries, toasted spices, licorice and hints of graphite in a ripe, balanced and textured style. Brought up all in concrete tank, it’s a beautiful Terrasses du Larzac to drink through 2025. »

La Blaca

La Blaca, AOP Languedoc Terrasses du larzac

La Blaca means White Oak in Occitan. ‘La Blaquièra’ is a forest of White Oak – hence our village’s name. Our vines grow on the cusp of two distinct climatic zones : the Hérault with its dominant sun, and the Aveyron which pours its cool air into our valley. This micro-climate where the Mediterranean Holm Oak and the northern White Oak live together is one of the reasons for this wine’s complexity and freshness.

Deep violet coloured : the clean aromas of cashew nuts, tapenade and fresh blackcurrant, so typical of the Syrah grown on the heights above St Jean, continue in the mouth. Splendidly thirst quenching, the wine ends on flowers with a hint of liquorice.

Decant several hours before drinking. Serve at 17° with duck breast, beef steak, lamb from the Larzac.

Grapes : 65% syrah – 20 % grenache – 15 % carignan.

L’Humeur Vagabonde
A wine with a character

L’humeur vagabonde (vagabonde free style), AOP Terrasse du Larzac. Red – Organic wine certified NOP

Centennial Carignanon Ruffes
Ruffes: thick sandstone deposits accumulated there 265 million years (primary age). Their color is due to the presence of iron oxides. Numerous drying cracks (ripples carved by water) and footprints “reptiles“ leave us imagine a marshy landscape where constantly alternating dry and wet periods.
Quaternarybetween-1.9and.4My: a real chain of volcanoes came across the region Lodévois. Latest volcanoes became extinct towards Salagou -650,000years.
And red ruffes in herited from the primary era coexist with dark basalts from the Quaternary volcanic flows making these landscapes and these unique terroirs in Europe.

Old Carignan in goblet 50%, Syrah 25%, Grenache 25%.

Old Carignan and Syrah on Ruffes, Grenache on schists.

Total destemming, unfired grapes. Parcels vinified separately. Daily circulation, maceration 14 days. Aging in concrete vat for 12 months.

Tasting notes

« The sensational 2015 Terrasses du Larzac l’Humeur Vagabonde checks in as a mix of very old vine Carignan (more than 100- year-old vines), Syrah and Grenache that was completely destemmed and aged in tank. Garrigue, saddle leather, peppery herbs and ample dark fruit flow to a medium-bodied, pure, elegant red that’s already hard to resist. Drink it anytime over the coming 4-6 years. »

Les Maros 2015
Small definied area

Les Maros 2015, AOP Terrasses du larzac. Red wine – Organic wine certified NOP

Lieu-dit (small defined areas):
Les Maros: west of the village, exposed to the rising sun, with schist at the foot of the hillside. Sheltered from the setting sun, this is our coolest vineyard area.

Grapes varieties : Grenache 60%, Cinsault 25%, Carignan 25%

Terroir : schist

Each land parcel is vinified separately .Total de-stemming, unpressed grapes
Daily circulation. Maceration for 15 days.
Maturing 12 months in concrete vats.

Characteristics of the land and  microclimate
Schist at an altitude between 150 and 200m on the foothills of the Larzac plateau.
The grapes ripen slowly thanks to the cool nights which mean they mature with good acidity and stay incredibly fresh.

The soft Grenache with its hints of blackberries, blackcurrants and a touch of grated chocolate, is a perfect foil for the sharper, slightly liquorice notes so characteristic of Carignan.
In the mouth, full, well balanced tannins end on a rich, slightly candied note reminiscent of cherries and blackcurrant.

Harvested by hand

Alcool : 14.5%alc/vol.

Press :
Robert Parker : 2015 90/100. 2013 : 90/100.
A decadently ripe, peppery, roasted herbs and black fruitscented effort, it’s medium to fullbodied, textured and balanced on the palate, with terrific purity of fruit.

Our « cuvée village »
The wine which represents our incredible terroir.
Expression of the fresh climate and the geological puzzle of Saint Jean de la Blaquière: village of the XIIth century in the heart of a natural circus. Down to the foothills of the Larzac at the crossing of a Mediterranean and continental climate between 150m and 200m high.

Grenache 32%, Syrah 49%, Cinsault 9%, Œillade 10%.

Schistes, sandstones, pebbles, ruffes.

Total destemming, crushed grapes. Each plot is vinified separately and raised in concrete tank, 8 months.

Tasting notes
The entry-level cuvee is well worth checking out. Made from Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah, the 2015 Terrasses Du Larzac Saint-Jean is a charming, fresh and forward effort that has good purity of fruit, plenty of southern France character and a good finish. It’s a steal at the price.” Jeb Dunnuck – The Wine Advocate #230
