Humeur Vagabonde
- Breaking new ground
 |
Grand guide des vins de France 2009 Bettane & Desseauve
Note : 15/20 - A very good wine - a fine example of the quality of its origins.
An incredible wine bursting with the fruit that is typical of the 2007 vintage; very more'ish.
Carignan is truly part of our heritage .
"I enjoy communing with my vines, listening to what they're telling me, that's why I chose to make wine. In 2006, I was puzzled and a touch disconcerted with the first wine from this parcel which I blended with a neighbouring Syrah ; I suspected its great potential was masked by the blend.
So in 2007, I vinified the Carignan alone ; the result was my Première Audace - I was breaking new ground ! I'm proud of this Carignan, a little emotional at freeing it to blossom alone for the first time in 85 years."
Tasting
Deep purple in colour, a slightly peppery nose enhanced with red berries (bilberries, wild blackberries, redcurrants) and cocoa beans, lively yet silky tannins in the mouth, this wine is seriously mouth-watering.

La Blaca

"A spirit of adventure, a voyage of discovery, a determination to be worthy of my Syrahs . Of 15 land parcels perched high above the village, I've picked out four - each with totally different soils and outlook. It was tantalising, and I'm delighted with the result : delightfully fresh, surprisingly flowery".
Tasting
Deep violet coloured : the clean aromas of cashew nuts, tapenade and fresh blackcurrant, so typical of the Syrah grown on the heights above St Jean, continue in the mouth. Splendidly thirst quenching, the wine ends on flowers with a hint of liquorice. A little Grenache means the mouth is smooth and rounded, with a touch of spice.
Grape varieties
Chosen from specific land parcels. Syrah and grenache. Maturing in vat.

Bronze medal in the national competition of independent wine producers.
"Grenache grapes are one of the main reasons I'm a vigneron at St Jean de la Blaquière. I just love the St Jean Grenaches, their silky opulence . their delicate spice. I get huge pleasure from vinifying them; this wine celebrates my four best land parcels at their absolute peak."
Tasting
The soft Grenache with its hints of blackberries, blackcurrants and a touch of grated chocolate, is a perfect foil for the sharper, slightly liquorice notes so characteristic of Carignan.
In the mouth, full, well balanced tannins end on a rich, slightly candied note reminiscent of cherries and blackcurrant.

Chosen from specific land parcels Grenache, syrah, carignan. Maturing in vat.

Revue du vin de France 'best wines at reasonable prices 2009'
"This wine is delightfully fruity and thoroughly vigorous. Light, well balanced tannins, it ends exceptionally clean... A good fruity wine, from a Domaine with a future" 14.5/20.
"I first came across the Oeillade grape at St Jean . It was a precursor of today's Cinsault, a luscious grape much enjoyed by grape pickers. This wine reflects all its fruitiness.
There is no stock available nowadays for planting, so I've arranged for my nurseryman to graft some so that I can grow more in the future. It's my small way of ensuring that part of our viticultural heritage is handed down to future generations ! "
Tasting
Hints of black pepper, redcurrant, raspberries and violet. In the mouth it's soft, luscious, with lots of crunchy red fruit.
There's even a touch of liquorice and blackcurrant- so the nose is even more intriguing
Grape varieties
Chosen from specific land parcels. Cinsault oeillade, syrah, grenache. Maturing in vat.
